How to Jump-Start a Car

Knowing how to jump-start a car is important as you don’t ever want to be in a situation where you’re stranded far from your Holyoke home. Luckily, we’re here to help you discover the proper way to jump-start a car. Before you try to jump-start your car battery, ensure you’ve got a pair of working jumper cables and a friend with a working vehicle that you can call. With that out of the way, here’s how to properly jump-start a car:

  1. Park the two vehicles close to each other, so the jumper cables can reach the battery in each vehicle.
  2. Ensure both vehicles are off, and locate the positive and negative battery terminals on each vehicle.
  3. Take the red clamp on the jumper cable, and connect it to the positive terminal of the vehicle with the dead battery.
  4. Connect the other red jumper cable clamp, and connect it to the positive terminal of the donor vehicle’s battery.
  5. Now, take the black clamp, and connect it to the negative terminal of the donor vehicle’s battery.
  6. Finally, the last black clamp should be attached to an unpainted metal surface on the vehicle with the dead battery to ground the connection.
  7. Start the donor vehicle, and let it run for a few minutes.
  8. Try starting the vehicle with the dead battery. If it doesn’t start, try waiting a few more minutes.
  9. Once the vehicle with the dead battery has started, remove the jumper cables in the reverse order that they were put on.

You now know how to jump-start a car in a few simple steps!
